👋🏻Hey, I'm Brooke

I grew up around construction sites, design decisions, and a family business that taught me a lot about how homes come together.

My dad was a custom homebuilder and my mom built a creative business rooted in art, textiles, accessories and decor. I always assumed I'd eventually work alongside my dad, even majoring in Spanish with the intention of joining his construction company and helping manage our Spanish-speaking crews. Life took a different turn when my dad became sick, and I ended up spending several years in education before finding my way back to design.

Over the past several years, I've had the opportunity to develop my own approach to design and grow the business into what is now BH Design Co. I love taking a space that isn't quite working and figuring out how to make it better — not just visually, but in the way it functions and feels to live in.

Today, my background in construction continues to shape the way I design. I enjoy working through the details, collaborating with builders and trades, and being involved from the early ideas all the way through the finished space. And, in the best way, I still get to use that Spanish degree almost every day when communicating with the wonderful Spanish-speaking crews we work with — something I'm genuinely grateful for.

Meet Courtney

Courtney and I have been friends for more than 20 years, so having her join the team in 2024 felt pretty natural.

With a background in education and hospitality management, Courtney brings a completely different — and incredibly valuable — perspective to the business.

As Head of Operations, she keeps the moving pieces moving: managing schedules, purchasing and tracking, coordinating communication between clients, designers, builders, and trades, and making sure everyone has what they need to keep a project on track.

She's calm, organized, and exceptionally good at making complicated things feel manageable. In other words, if things are running smoothly around here, Courtney is probably behind it.

Q & A

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN STYLE?

We don't really subscribe to one particular style. Every project starts with the people who live there, the architecture of the home, and how the space needs to function. Our work tends to feel collected, timeless, and intentional rather than overly styled. We love mixing old and new, natural materials, thoughtful details, and a little bit of personality.

WHAT MAKES BH DESIGN CO. DIFFERENT?

Our background in construction is a big part of how we approach design. We understand that a beautiful idea also needs to make sense on paper, in the field, and in real life. We work closely with clients, builders, and trades to think through the details early, communicate clearly, and create homes that are as functional as they are beautiful.

DO I NEED TO HAVE A BUILDER TO WORK WITH YOU?

Nope. Not at all. In fact, many of our clients come to us before they've chosen a builder or contractor. Depending on the project, we can help connect you with the right building professional for the job. If you already have someone you love working with, we're happy to collaborate with them, too.

HOW INVOLVED ARE YOU DURING CONSTRUCTION?

It depends on the service you choose. For Design to Build and Full-Service projects, we're involved throughout the construction process to help answer design questions, coordinate with the builder and trades, and keep the design moving forward. Our goal isn't to disappear once the selections are made. We want to see the design through.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK WITH BH DESIGN CO.?

Organized, collaborative, and probably a little more involved than you expected. We believe good communication makes a project better—and a whole lot less stressful. We take the big decisions seriously, sweat the small stuff, and try not to take ourselves too seriously along the way. There will probably be a lot of texts and emails, a few job-site conversations, plenty of samples and visuals, and at least one Orange Crush.😉
